I don't disagree with your assessment. High hopes all around. However, the whitepaper was pretty specific about the value of the token. I'm sure a lot of people made a lot of money, I just wasn't one of them.

As legions were drawn to EOS, lured by the siren call of speculation, its value was poised to soar. Yet, this very ascent threatened to hinder the nurturing of applications. In response, ingenious contrivances like the DAPP Network were forged to ensure EOS could scale, even as the price of its token reached Olympian heights. Had the machinations behind EOS been steered with a deft hand, the token would have indeed transcended into a speculative asset, a bastion of value. Alas, like lambs led to the slaughter, EOS has been pillaged, its essence drained by the ENF.
