The alternative is Trezor. I use the Trezor 1, the first product. It is fully open source (free software) and open hardware. Since it has been shown that the seed can be extracted by someone in possession of the device, it is not suitable for having it in your pocket while walking around, it has to be hidden or locked in while not in use. The advantage compared to a paper wallet, is that you can use it as a normal hd-wallet, combining and splitting utxos, without ever revealing the seed to any internet-connected device. I use it in combination with Electron Cash. Since it can be destroyed, lost or stolen, you need a paper write-out of your your seed, hidden on a safe place, just like with any other wallet. An irritating negative is that it is compatible with some irrelevant coins, and therefore it gets more upgrades than necessary for only btc and bch. Most of the updates
As far as I remember trezor wasn't BCH friendly. I strictly do business with BCH friendly firms in crypto.
They have been been unfriendly to BCH in the past. Not sure their current stance.
Not very friendly, but trezor has always worked perfectly with bitcoin cash
The newest trezor, the model safe 3, has a secure element which should make it much safer against physical attacks. It is supported by the appimage for linux and windows that can be built today from the github. You can use it with the 4.3.1 source image release by adding a few pip installs. I got two last November, one for dev use and one for personal use. It looks to be much higher build quality than the model 1, but not as nice as the model 2, which is more expensive and lacks the secure element.
