Question

I have this idea about creating a vending machine module

that can make any recent (say < 8 year old) vending machine accept BCH in addition to the traditional methods it might already support (cash/card/nfc etc.) I thought perhaps you guys already did some of that work but it looks to be completely custom right?

Yeah, ours is completely custom. It was meant to be a purely promotional tool, so payment is with BCH only, no fiat. But some of the merchants we onboarded wanted to install one on their shops. We now have one of these in a cafe and another one to be installed soon in a school.

By insistent public demand, we also are now building cash-in ATMs (without the vending machine). More and more people here want to buy Bitcoin Cash, many are motivated by the recent pumps.

Understood, makes sense for it to be BCH only when it’s for promotional purposes only. You think there’s a market for a BCH module that can be easily installed on a vending machine (as easy as adding a card acceptor) in addition to the existing payment methods it already has? I can think of a lot of benefits, one is that it might get people that already use the machine but aren’t familiar with crypto to look into BCH and eventually use it. You can give a 10% BCH discount or something since there’s no subscription/card processing fees. Owner gets the BCH directly into their wallet, my current proof of concept takes an xPub. I just started working on this because I think it’s fun but absolutely unsure if any vending machine owners would be interested in it. Vending machines use a standardized protocol for communication with modules so this could be used world wide since any recent vending machine understands this protocol.

Operators of vending machines here already approached us for BCH payment integration. So yeah, I think there is a demand for it.

Sounds promising. Do they generally have WiFi nearby? What kind of internet connection are you guys using for the ATM machines? Wired, WiFi, 4G?
