Any ideas why the “Phoenix” miner is driving up difficulty?

There's been quite a bit of discussion: - Attack seems unlikely, they aren't doing anything else nefarious, and in backing off now they're letting it slowly go back down - Maybe they wanted to mine a bunch of fresh BCH for an OTC purchase who was demanding "clean" coins - Maybe they got a large order and that was an easier way for them to fill it - Maybe they just misconfigured their miners (I think this is unlikely) - Maybe management clued in to BCH and became ideologically convinced to join our chain (also unlikely, but possible)

An announcement like "hey guys, we are doing X right now, nothing to worry about" would be nice. But nah, miners never do that. This is why I often say that miners are the most following part of the BCH/BTC ecosystem. They never engage with the community or the internal politics. They just do some shit and then we guess why they did some shit. Kinda annoying.
