Isn't a memory stick unreliable for storing private key for a long time?

Consider printing it then or something.

yeah sure. whatever method I'm using I should print it, multiple copies in different locations. But the point is with a memory stick you'll also need a trusted offline machine to sign your transactions. So I think either an offline device such as a phone or a hardware wallet could be a better option.

Don't buy a hardware wallet, it's interesting in theory but none of the actual products on the market make their promise true. Lots of broken promises, lots of actually hacked data and even loss of functionality due to upgrades

yeah I didn't say it's a good idea either. See what did I write about turning a KaiOS phone into a hardware wallet

I like the concept of Satochip. I haven't heard anything negativ about it. But you need clean offline machine to prep it.

Its a bit cumbersome

Yes but they use of the shelf security cards/chips instead of Atem/Microchip microcontrollers that are not meant for safe storage.

That's why old cell phones as AirGap hardware wallets make more sense. A new device may be harder to attack thanks to improvements to encrypt the sector where your phone saves your phone password or pin.
