You can technically do with DigiByte Core but it won't be easy. DigiByte mobile has flaws in its implementation of Digi-Id making it not compatible with any other wallet. For this reason I strongly recomend ever using that wallet. Coinoimi, Ownbit and several other wallets support Digi-Id. There is also a few standalone apps like Digi-ID/DigiPassword

For DigiByte help, check the DigiByte troubleshooting tool it covers most common problems. And if it doesn’t help you, it will put you in touch with our human volunteers. Only scammers will private message you.

I wrote it. I still recomend coinomi which is a full fledged wallet that also supports DigiByte.

Yes. It's extremely secure and some devolopers in this project do have access to the code. Unless your going to compile it yourself open or closed source makes no difference since you have no way to know the published executable matches the source code.

It's a valid principle of security that open source and the executable, being published in the sunlight, gives people more confidence that vulnerabilities or malicious code would be revealed by people who have the means to understand the open source code.

Executable is more in the sunlight by being accompanied by source.

Many believe this but the reality is open source gives most a false sense of safety. Walletgenerator.net is a perfect example. The public github was a clean safe wallet generator. For a time though the web code had code in place to let them steel funds. Unless you compile it yourself open source is no more secure then closed source. Another good example is trezor. There are known attack vectors that make these hardware wallets easy to hack if you can get your hands on. They are open source. Ledger on the other hand is closed source but far safer because these attack vectors don't exist or at least are not known yet. There are many wallets you can use. I recomend coinomi because they have proven there security and they have both DigiByte and Digi-ID. In fact they where the first wallet to properly implement Digi-ID. But you can use any wallet you like. The only 2 I don't recomend are DigiByte Go(now dead) and DigiByte Mobile because they do not comply with industry standards putting you at a real risk of losing everything related to them(a life time is a long time relying on 1 wallet that cant interoperate with others is a recipy for disaster).
