Desktop version allows backup of wallet and reindexing of the

wallet and does not allow recovery by 24 words. What is best practice for securing the desktop wallet? If the wallet backup file is corrupted, you lose all your coins?

Desktop wallet is a full node wallet, therefore the difference to the light wallet. Indeed corrupted data may pose a problem, but that's exactly why you surelly save your wallet.dat file frequently and in different locations, other than your desktop for sure 😁 If not, please consider doing so 🙂 Never forget that you are "your own bank" in decentralized finace, so always act according, your very finances depend on that 👍

thanks. sounds like mobile app is the better option (more secure and you have the ability to restore your wallet), until the desktop version can provide the recovery option. Any idea when desktop version will support recovery?

Desktop wallet does have recovery, it's the wallet.dat file. The first desktop versions had 24 seed also, but further enhacements on it dictated the end of them and replacement for the wallet.dat file. Each of them as it's own particularities, with the desktop wallet you can rua a full node and therefore help the network, as well as host a masternode. Nothing of this is possible with rhe light wallet. The light wallet for desktop os on the road map, likely during this year
