If my shard is picked in lottery, am I required

to setup the node immediately or will they give time to procure and setup the PC? How long will they wait?

Mainnet operators currently use 11 different providers, I don't know if that includes any home setups.

As far as I know you could run a home setup if you wanted to and had the expertise, and were confident in the connection. Right @Proph151Music @criptix?

This is the case with all crypto projects but the true decentralised system should encourage or special incentivise home build PCs

Interesting idea. I suppose once you were past the initial set up costs, it might be cheaper than a vps?

Yes, and it's not even specialized hardware that you'd need, so initial cost shouldn't be that expensive. You will need to make sure you have stable internet connection and backups in case of electricity failure or hardware failure. That's why most choose a VPS, since they have contingencies in place
