for transactions to be completed? does it pose any security risk if it’s reduced?
what about this tho?
If height time is reduced, all transactions would take less time, BUT you cannot reduce that time as much as you want, since the more you reduce it, the less time there is to process smart contracts (and those would be impacted)
impacted? what do u mean? and whats wrong if theres less time to process smart contracts?
Imagine when processing a smart contract takes more time than it takes to issue a new block
MetaMask and TrustWallet aren't supported! Kadena has its own blockchain so doesn't have a contract address as such. You can obtain it from CoinMetro.com / Binance.com / KuCoin.com / Gate.io / Okx.com (and other exchanges listed here: https://www.coingecko.com/en/coins/kadena#markets)
i dont get it 😂😂
If you have a 30 second block time then you can write very complex smart contracts that take up to 30 seconds to complete. If you have a 2 second block time then the contracts must be shorter and broken up into multiple steps. That makes financial transactions like flash loans less useful.
ouhh right. thanks man 👍
It's a balancing act. There are pluses and minuses to different block lengths. I think the Kadena team's original vision was to have fast finality on Kuro. That obviously didn't work out, but L2s shoudl be coming.
ok whats L2s? i thought L2 is Kuro? no?
There are L2s in the work that projects will be able to use. There aren't much details out there but you can see it in action in the builders call #1 https://youtu.be/_fmghCiHZxQ?t=417
L2 refers to layer 2. It's a common way of referring to those solutions that enhance an L1 blockchain (like Kadena)
the L2 being worked on is more about public blockchain than kuro -which was more targeting private blockchain for enterprise-
sorry, it's block time of 30s or height time? or are they both interchangeable?
I'm not sure what you mean by height time. There is block time (how long between blocks) and block height (how many blocks since inception of the chain).
Height time is how I called the time between different heights, to explain him how Kadena works
Technically it's block time, but I used the term "height time" just to make the differentiation with the time between blocks
L2s on Kadena are coming. Originally there was Kuro but that was depreciated by the team and is no longer supported.
so in Kadena's case, when someone creates a smart contract, he follows the block time of 1.5s? or the 30s "height time"

so kuro is scrapped...?
Kuro was deprecated because there wasn't an easy way to have it keep up with Pact updates, afaik
it's available as open source for anyone willing to develop with it
is there an article about it?
Not that I know of, but you can check on discord, there is a lot about it, or even campfires
how recent was it tho?
I don't know, not that it matters much, really
ouh why tho>
Because it's deprecated? Not sure I understand sorry
