Depending on the complexity of the transaction... between 0.6 and 1000 transactions / second.. We are on a SC chain. Each transaction is different and has a different weight and cost.

But theoretically, it could be unlimited as @RottweilerBets said... Because number of chains could be expanded if needed.

yes and this will effect the single chain confirmation time as the number of hops increases, but the good news is the # of chains is exponential w.r.t the number of hops I believe. aka many many chains can be added before DD pops up to 4 or 5. and each hop adds to confirmation time less and less as DD goes up (harmonic sum relationship)

Do you are wrong... The confirmation time doesn't depend on the number of chain... It depends only on the size of nodes network. But the good news is that we use the gossip algorithm, and the time for a transaction to be spread through the network is ot linearly dependent with the number of nodes.. but closed to be constant.
