If you are making a large deposit it would be best to just transfer the token you want to hold. The spreads from swapping will be greater than the transfer costs associated with just sending what you need.

It depends also, as NEXO doesn't necessarily allow all native transfers. For example I was looking to transfer Cosmos and Luna, but they are not yet supported. To your point as well, especially from a tax perspective depending on where you live it is better to not swap which might trigger a taxable event.
