if I am a node in this decentralized network and someone uses me to look for something illegal? Is there any protection for that?" What to say to this?
Yes you could show the relevant authorities what you are doing. Hosting nodes. What times the illegal content was accessed you could verify it against where you actually were at the time etc. ISPs are afforded similar protections, granted they are corporate entities. I'm in the middle of speaking with various (English) privacy solicitors on drafting framework you could post when hosting nodes that would afford you some sort of protection.
You can also block specific ports the make it harder for evil do-ers. For example torrenting, tor or mail
I remember the idea was floated around you could run a node with only the top 1000 Alexa ranked websites
Doesn't hosting on Akash eliminate or drastically reduce the risk?
I would say so. It's how I'm doing it now.
