Bitcoin is still basically the index, and since people are herd creatures, when the index dumps everyone goes with it. What few people realize is that the whole crypto market is correlated to the US markets, particularly the Nasdaq. Just look at how the market reacts on the new york open. It's basically move for move, which makes sense since the guys with the money are also involved in other markets. When they get spooked, they go into cash in almost all markets they're in, and everyone tanks.
