the physical artwork?
It's a weird question and I'm struggling to explain what I'm asking. I'm getting the sense that from a story persepctive, Arkefi can only really know, and update, the blockchain history of a piece that passes through its process. So the only real way to control the story is to ensure that each and every transaction happens through Arkefi.
(Or that you all have to do a LOT of work to research the provenance of a piece)
You've raised a great point. Arkefi indeed focuses on capturing the "story" or provenance of an artwork once it enters our ecosystem. Our Tech allows us to maintain an unalterable record of all transactions related to that piece of art, but you're correct in noting that this history begins when the artwork first becomes a part of the Arkefi platform. For pieces with a history prior to entering our system, extensive due diligence and research are conducted to ensure we understand its provenance as fully as possible.
I know this is not a simple thing, either. It's part of the value-added of your service. And once the artwork *leaves* your ecosystem, that history also stops, correct? So a collector who values this would be wise to keep the artwork within your ecosystem.
Once an artwork leaves our ecosystem, its transaction history as maintained by Arkefi stops being updated. If the collector values the detailed history and provenance that we provide, it's beneficial for them to keep the artwork within our ecosystem. And just to clarify, the collector can choose to repurchase the artwork based on the option in the contract. If they don't activate this option, they retain permanent ownership, and Arkefi will ensure the re-sale to achieve the highest possible value.
