be better of going with a hardware raid (probably raid 10) or something like a ZFS striped pool?

We have tons of spares for the disks i'd put in. The server will probably be decommissioned before running out of disks tbh

ZFS is out of tree (and slow) and HW raid is bad because with age you will have a hard time getting the hardware in case of failure.
