relying on WSL for multiple reasons — for one, some machines don't have access to it, like the ones I use at work. Also, I remember it being relatively buggy when it first came out, although that might have been fixed. I find Git Bash to be unintrusive and simple to use pretty much anywhere in the normal Windows FS space.
I find GIMP very painful to use. My use of image editing is generally limited to a few layers of simple edits. All my last recallable uses of it have been for memes. I find Paint.NET indispensible in that regard. You should give it a shot if you do relatively light editing.
I read a lot of PDFs, and often find myself having to add comments and the like on them. Having a full-featured PDF editor helps.
I don't edit audio often either. For the few occasions that I do need to record something, Audacity helps.
Git Bash is awesome. WSL has been steadily improving, although I haven't used the recent version.
