you pointed to is self explained. now i will explain few reasons of my pov as a user:
windows have many parts that you may don't need to. it's overusing resources have many heavy backgroun process. they tried to put everything inside and let you disable some of them. linux just will let you add if you need.
ntfs and it's $MFT, registry and many other parts have unnecessary influence on performance and this influence will increase over time and issue is in design and can't be fixed. the only way is sandboxing it always and don't let it to be dirtier and take care of it's cleaning and defragmenting as a baby.
it's telementary and controling system is always conected and can't be fully blocked. i tried to make a whitelist controller for it's conections to save my bandwidth.
different parts of windows tried to be close and automatic and out of reach and they are on top each other. one little mistake and the whole building will collapse and what you can do? u just can ask them to fix it for you if they care and they are always working for money
now after many years i'm in linux. and it's open enough for me to change any part of it and make an os fit to my needs. memory usage is ~300 MB and cpu is in vacation most of the time. and recently i noticed my windows programs behave much better in a well tuned linux wine
not sure about ntfs implementation so I can’t argue about it but I have been mainly playing games on xp for about 2 days and never noticed any performance issues tbh good old days , not sure about win10 since I have stopped playing games recently other stuff you mentioned are just a part from any closed source system like when anything stop working hell yes you gonna need their help and probably its for free , you can contact the only support they will respectfully access your machine and try to fix your issue did that before and they were pretty much just curious about the issue and pretty much had nice time talking to them for linux no one gonna give you that level of help btw you have to rtfm and try to fix it yourself , didn’t work go to irc and meet some people who might be jerks especially if you were using slackware or such distros and well it uses resources I admit it so macOs does so gnome does etc .. linux DEs aren’t stable or mature enough btw unless you will use something like i3 so go ahead for it . xfce old af mate = gnome2 cinnamon = resources overusage kde = unstable gnome = totally fucked up recently ( no doubt ig ) lets be honest whats the engineers , Ui/Ux designers , osdevs .. etc job? isn’t it to build a nice and userfriendly Os in linux they failed so they gave that burden to the user to mess with things he should not touch in macOs they did it with closed source and platform specific Os in windows , they are still trying and they will get it eventually some people are interested in their win10 ui btw
one little mistake like what btw ?
