So I got a nice description for an "ics" event,

sadly that does contain UTF chars and emojis. I would like to reduce the strings to something that is effectively nice on the human eye and might lack those emojis (also less worry about security errors) and put the result as description.

The generation of the ics / ical is no problem (neither as text, nor with python module help), however the encoding problems seem to be more difficile than expected.

Is there an alternative to just stripping the string and throwing away chars that aren't in the reduced charset?
