help reduce (or eliminate) this $5million - $10million weekly liability.
has anyone suggested contacting Celsius and (even while withdrawals, transfers and swaps are frozen), contacting Celsius and requesting NOT to earn any interest on deposits?
I mean declining to earn weekly rewards.
Celsius claims to have 1.7 million customers. Paying that many customers interest on deposits is a massive weekly expense. A massive liability. We could all help to reduce (or completely eliminate) this liability by declining to earn interest while their larger problems are solved.
You guys all got excited about the short squeeze, but it looks like there wasn't enough participants to move CEL price significantly. I'm guessing the lack of participants is due to most of us having all our funds frozen in our Celsius accounts (like me). 100% of all funds frozen, so we can't buy 1 CEL, let alone cause pain to those scum shorts.
However, even with our accounts frozen, we CAN contact Celsius and request to forfeit our interest on deposits.
I just thought of this last night when my new loan manager suggested I allocate my remaining ETH as new collateral for my loan, to help lower my LTV. And looking at my account I thought, 'well now I have almost nothing available to earn interest', and 'hopefully that makes things easier for Celsius'.
And then I thought, what if we all do this? Briefly browsing through the Rewards Explorer, it looks like Celsius has paid out roughly USD$10million a week in rewards (over $5million in more recent weeks).
If we all request to decline these rewards, we will eliminate at least 1 of Celsius' burdens. They can allocate this capital to protecting our assets, and this could increase the likelihood of Celsius' survival and recovery.
And if Celsius survives and recovers, we're all going to make it.
Talking about "staying positive", thinking happy thoughts etc, is not an action that will make any objective, real measurable improvements. You might "feel" better, but your feelings aren't going to objectively improve Celsius position in any real and measurable way. Threatening legal action won't help Celsius survive and recover either. We need Celsius to survive and recover so that we can survive and recover.
The short squeeze plan was noble, but it looks like none us have enough (or any) money to make a significant difference. But we CAN make over USD$5million - USD$10million difference every week if we contact Celsius and decline/forfeit our weekly rewards. That much money is very real and measurable.
I'm sorry for this massive block of text. I just wrote it off the top of my head. I'll write a TLDR at the top, and at the end here as a closing summary.
Let me know what you guys think. I'm sure smarter members will have valuable thoughts to contribute.
I had been earning about USD$400 weekly interest from Celsius, but that dropped as I moved almost all of it into loan collateral.
I will now write to Celsius to ask if I can decline/forfeit all of my weekly rewards until much healthier times. If it helps Celsius recover, then I would be happy to decline/forfeit my rewards for years.
I don't care about badges etc, I just want to protect my life savings. But I wonder if the community received this idea positively, maybe someone out there has the skills to create some kind of badge (for those who are inclined to care about it), for people to show they are doing this to help the community. A mark to show "I have declined my rewards to help everyone else".
TLDR - contact Celsius to decline/forfeit our weekly rewards to help reduce (or eliminate) this $5million - $10million weekly liability.
That's a good idea, and I certainly don't mind, but realistically, all the rewards are just on paper now. They're not expenditures.
Happy to be part of it. What email should I email to?
Celsius Network <app@celsius.network>, Celsius Network <support@celsius.network> Hello Celsius, To help reduce one of your weekly liabilities, I want to decline/forfeit my weekly rewards. I do not want to receive any interest on my deposits until everything is stable at Celsius. Please let me know what I need to do to make this happen.

do you have any better ideas?
OR they simply adjust the interest rates on their side, which have always been flexible
Simply earn rewards in Cel, it helps everyone
but they haven't done that, so I was thinking it will help if we take the initiative and ask for this to happen
Not US citizens
that is still a cost to them
still getting paid interest, even if it's just on paper
ok done. what else?
Ok don't list Luna 2.0 and look to upskill the review team technique on picking what to list
Us too, we are also taxpayers. This is not just virtual “nothing” that’s going on.
Been there done that you ain't the only one with a brain, tweeted to forfeit our weekly returns on the first or second day, hell, I'm even happy to pay a 10% early withdrawel on all my crypto
what was the response to your request?
