I still don't see how this type of authorization is

useful... Why just not make a many-to-many relationship between roles/users and just check the role when accessing any route?

Well, if I get you right, in that case you need to write some "if"s for any method of each controller to check if user is authorized to run the function or not. more codes and less flexible
