of providing the starting inventory and location. Quests could use the player's role to go about a problem differently. The issue is that roles were universal, and did not effect stats in any way. An Incanter Merchant is an example of a class and role, that does not work very realistically.
A subclass determines starting inventory, quest approaches, but also provides stat manipulation and is determined directly by the class, to ensure a compatible class and subclass can be achieved.
That sounds like a good change. There are many games with things similar to those Roles, but they are usually called "Starting Abilities" or "Background" so it makes more sense.
yeah, we had ideas on having both subclasses and backgrounds separate but they'd both have to fall under the class anyway so just merged them
this is why "proper games" take time to make, every little detail about them has had at least 170(a full week) of hours at the barest of minimum.
