Rider is great if you can afford it, vs code

is a good alternative otherwise, but I thought monodevelop wasnt bring worked on anymore?

Xamarin Studio got bought by Microsoft and they named it Visual Studio for Mac. I guess Linux is lacking it. There's a preview version of Visual Studio for Mac 2022, set to be released next year and it uses native UI elements and is quite nice. So, they are still working on it.
