With low level unix.Read() method /dev/abc dir is being interpreted

Question

With low level unix.Read() method /dev/abc dir is being interpreted

as a normal file but for other locations it errors out saying it is a directory.

Is that the case because I had to unmount the plugged-in device I was trying to read from?

By unmounting it and then trying to read it, am I essentially ignoring the presence of any filesystem and therefore it's rules?

I didn't really understand any of what you just said and I don't understand how are you able to read contents of a folder(As in a directory) with os.Open.
