I started Android development with Eclipse, in 2014 and then migrated to IntelliJ in 2015, using IDEA till now... Most striking was the great autocompletion, I wasn't accustomed by Eclipse at all, it just felt and feels great in IntelliJ IDEA, it makes a very flexible impression and always seems to be » in context «. Also I like navigating logically in code, so finding usages of methods, contructors, jumping to used classes or methods, etc. more in IntelliJ. Additionally, the imports are updated more smoothly while writing code. I think there are also some other details I would notice if I directly compared both IDEs in use, but unfortunately I do currently not have enough time to get into detail any more. I assume Eclipse got also enhanced during the last two years, and I didn't used it actively since then, but on that basis, IntelliJ won, in my case. I might have a look at a newer version of Eclipse, if I would find time some day, but as Android Studio (based on IntelliJ, with well integrated tools for Android, ignored here, because official Eclipse support/recommendation was discontinued by Google) now is the official IDE for Android applications, I will continue using it, as I'm focused on Android .-.
