it doesn't say anything, but I found out that it was the flex-basis property and not the width of a flexbox item after reading more about flexbox

you can inspect it in the animations tab of the chrome devTools, it will show all the transitioning properties on that element

Well, I highly suggest you to look into the page inspector tool. It makes HTML and CSS WAAAAAAAYYYYYY easier cause you can just modify stuff on the fly and you don't gotta refresh the page constantly or anything like that. Tbh I personally find a majority of CSS issues here could be solved by poking around in the Rules View in the Inspector tab lol
