Just don't use derivative distros (unless they are mede by the same people / company), i.e. use Debian instead of Ubuntu, Arch instead of Manjaro, etc. Most things built from scratch are fine. A distro based on another distro is a red flag.

Use whatever you like, just keep in mind that people in Linux community have strong opinions, sometimes based on their experience, sometimes not. Listen to their reasoning and then decide for yourself.
