Debian Devuan Mate is what I'm running on my old nx7010 here, CPU is slow-ish and the CF card performance is rather abysmal, but it has 2GB of DDR RAM and that is not a bottleneck. In fact I often have 10 or so tabs open on it in Firefox ESR

None to be fair, that won't even be able to run a few tabs of a modern browser. But the OS doesn't matter, the DE does.
