nix packages are isolated, can do atomic upgrades, system-wide rollback(can rollback kernel, or anything of that sort before even booting into the OS), is reproducable, build environments are stupid easy, has reliable upgrades, meaning that running update/rebuild command will always produce the same result, thus upgrading a system is as reliable as installing from scratch, source based model with binaries, so you get the advantages of both, multi user support(is stupid easy as well), and hunreds of other features
