works? If it's not on a server, how else would it be centrally-stored?
2. I've read about the crypto problem, but since I'm not a cryptographer, I don't know too much about it. Isn't using homemade crypto a good thing, since it would be safe if somebody found a vulnerability in mainstream cryptography? And also, artcicles from crypto experts say that it takes 2^64 commands to interecept a secret chat. Such an attack would require extremely powerful computing power.
Really the only thing bad in my opinion is the fact that Telegram's server-side is proprietary.
No there's no need for Telegram to know what's in your messages. You can just have a mechanism that decrypts stuff on only the device in a safe manner. Even key sharing between devices can be done securely and even offline. The thing is though, searching trough a five year long Telegram history on a phone won't work.
1. is not an issue for me but there is such a thing called federation where it is decentralized but all interconnected. 2. if something is found in mainstream encryption it would be fixed by thousands of people. Telegram's is managed solely by Telegram and has never been audited. 3. However the vast majority of Telegram messages are NOT encrypted at all. For example, everything in this group or any group is not encrypted
