Hi folks, I'm having some screen flickering(booting and shutdown) and

touchpad issues on ubuntu 14.04 Installed on a 5 year old Dell laptop. Any solutions to this? What would be the best distro to install on old Laptops?

any distro would be ok as long as you dont use display converter, like HDMI To VGA or so... using a resolution more than ur supported display causes flickering

My laptop is 8 years old, and I use debian+mate, it's just fine. I think desktop environment is more import, just try light weight desktop environment like lxde, xfce, mate, or tilling manager. If you muse use heavy application, change a larger memory card.
