I always used python and now I'm starting with numpy,

pandas and scipy (a bit of pymc3), but I found that lots of people use R, are there any advantages in using R instead of Python?

I started with python long ago for general purpose programming. Now using R. Having vectorized functions everywhere has made everything much easier. Which is true of almost any other array processing language I've used. However, it sometimes does cause headaches.. Like when error handling, which I'm still not sure how to do..
