I am aware of some programs but I have no idea which ones are better than others.
I remember a piece of software called Kdenlive which iirc runs on Linux. Granted, all the actually professional software for this purpose (Premiere, Final Cut Pro, ...) seems to be Windows / MacOS exclusive. For anything more advanced than Windows Movie Maker equivalent, I'd suggest dualbooting with Windows instead.
Late response, but the best video editing software is DaVinci Resolve. It's not open source, but it is industry-leading software that's just free to use (because Blackmagic sells hardware, they can afford to make high-quality free software). Officially they only support CentOS Rocky Linux for some weird reason, but you can find instructions to wrap it for any popular Linux. I've used it on Debian (and occasionally on Windows) for a long time, works very well! AUR has it, there are articles for Fedora and others. https://www.blackmagicdesign.com/products/davinciresolve
Thanks, but I'd like to avoid closed source as much as possible.
not a weird reason, it's this: https://vfxplatform.com/
