Ok I've found out more: apparently my headset uses mSBC

which is already a big improvement over CVSD, but I listened to a recorded comparison between mSBC and CVSD (in A2DP mode so I can clearly hear) and it mSBC sounds way better then on my linux with mSBC selected which sounds much more like CVSD (even though it's not selected and not even supported by my headset), while mSBC delivers a pretty good sound in the comparison (which I'd call medium to high quality, which is fair enough for me, as cable also has it's weaknesses (at least if not using professional hardware)). So the question is why does it sound like CVSD when using mSBC?
