a Postgres development tool?
The main points I would like the tool to have:
* Ability to connect to the target DB
* Ability to debug the code (e.g. stored procedures, functions, etc..)
* Syntax highlighting & auto formatting
* Code Linting (particularity the ability to detect when a variable is undefined / mistyped)
The tools I have checked out (feel free to share your experiences if you used any of the following):
VSCode
* Offers syntax highlighting for SQL however if you change the document language to PostgresSQL no highlighting is available
* The following extensions for VSCode:
-SQLTools + Postgres Driver - the driver seems to be in early development (encountered the following open bug which caused the connection to fail: Issue 885)
- PostgreSQL - doesn't seem to be actively maintained
- vscode-postgresql - doesn't seem to be actively maintained
- pgFormatter - didn't seem to get it to format the document even though I have Perl installed
* Azure Data Studio - has a Postgres extension but it doesn't seem to be actively maintained
The question should never be "what's the best tool?", but "what's the best tool for this specific implementation?"
Hi Pedro, Thank you for your reply! If you would re-read the question you will see that in no place did I ask / say: "what's the best tool?" I have listed the main points I would like the tool to have as accurately as I could and would be more then happy to hear any recommendations you may have
Why not pgAdmin?
