I'm completely new to linux. And I dont quite understand how Optimus wont matter if you're plugged in. Does that mean then the nvidea GPU is always used by default?
Without Optimus, Nvidia GPU will be used with everything, Resulting in more battery consumption. WIth optimus, You can configure explicitly, What applications should use nvidia gpu. In this case, Only the specified applications will use the GPU and everything else will use the integrated GPU, Resulting in significantly less battery consumption. My laptop is plugged in at all times so I don't really care about the standby time, Which is why I didn't want to bother with the added complexity of optimus.
