1. Have you tested out that backlight is infact working

?
2. I don't think the volume would increase indefinetly to the point of damaging the input. (Does it though)

If I change brightness value in /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/brightness, It works just fine. I don't know the max volume because alsa doesn't shows anything beyond 100 but it does gets really really loud and it'll definitely damage speakers.
