So I have my old university laptop at home and

would like to use it as a kind of home server... But it doesn't support Hyper-V.
1) Any chance to enable virtualization in firmware or by flashing something, is that generally possible?
2) Are there any alternatives to Docker containers that would still work?
3) I guess I could go for a VM on the thing but assume the performance will be sorta bad, not sure. Would you recommend doing that, and if so, what's a good free alternative to VirtualBox?

I’d hazard a guess that if you directly use a x64 Linux based OS, it won’t need bios enabled Virtualisation. It basically needs a kernel that supports namespaces and groups. I’m not 100% sure of this though. It’s based on theory.
