and a swap on the secondary drive. During this, I found the culprit that makes my internal speakers rattle — one of the screws is missing. I must’ve lost it a long time ago, so I have no idea where it is anymore. I’d like to buy a replacement screw, but I don’t know how to properly search for this specific type. The laptop in question is a Lenovo IdeaPad Y700-15ISK, and I was able to find replacement speakers for this laptop — both for the tweeters here, and the subwoofer. It’s a bit expensive and unnecessary though, and I don’t know if those even come with screws. So.. any idea how I could go about finding just those? FWIW, I do have one of the screws in question left that I could measure with callipers in a few days.
Soft glue
Hmm, could work yeah. I’m a bit scared that it wouldn’t be able to come apart again though. But I do have two bottles of such glue at my place yeah (that’s where I’m flying back to in a few days). I remember one of them being called “tacky glue”, and another that I think was some all-purpose glue. I guess both could work on plastic and wouldn’t stick too strongly.. but wouldn’t the speakers eventually make that come loose too over time?
Probably you can use a normal screw with a large washer, but it's a really small screw and could be hard to come by
That's actually not a bad idea, I will consider this! The washer would be much easier to come by, and is absolutely necessary. It seems that the large screw head is there to push down on the rubber gasket that insulates the speaker from the rest of the chassis. I'm not sure if there will be enough clearance to make that a washer and a screw, but it's certainly worth a shot. For the time being, I did end up stealing one of the subwoofer's screws. It has 2 of these screws, and another that ties it to the battery compartment. So even now there's still 2 screws left there to keep that in place. Currently I'm trying to play a video on the speakers, and so far it seems that the rattle is gone.
