install say vault or consul when 1st party tooling already exists?
Hi Stef, the problem we are solving with Caravan is not installing vault or nomad or whatever part of HC stack you might want to use in a specific environment. The problem Caravan solves is to have a fully functional platform without having to glue modules together each time and for every specific use case. Caravan is not about installing components. It is about having a functional solution for orchestrated application workload. We've made a fully functional installer that creates a fully functional Hashicorp and totally integrated stack that can be deployed on three (more to come) major cloud providers. One can easily grab aws/gcp/oci modules by HC from the registry and install vault. Then do the same with consul. Then nomad. Then play with scripts and configs. She will get there eventually. Caravan makes it easier, more flexible and repeatable.
Doesn’t quite answer the question, but good luck
Then I probably don't understand the question. Sorry about that!
Think about what kubespray is and add the hashicorp stack in the formula
Well you need to look at the pros and cons of third and first party software. A lot of third party software is open-source, which can be a biggy to developers and how protective they are over their data. But counterintuitively, third-party software suppliers could insert malicious code into their software, meaning the first party software is the most reliable and guaranteed to work since it's developed for their product. Some first-party software is priced, while third-party isn't. Depending on your financial situation, you might not be able to afford to get it meaning you need to go for an alternative.
Main question is why bother when hashicorp has tooling to deploy the hashicorp stack. Tooling that's documented, supported and completely free and open source
Hashicorp provides the tooling for their software free of charge and its all completely open source
Along with the reasons, third-party software may contain a feature that the developer hasn't implemented in yet
